with a little help from my friends

Our work Christmas party has a dress theme.... the 60's & 70's. Ok, people this is where I need help since I am the original "fashion don't".

I did find the TALLEST and most perfect black platform shoes ever so I am set in the footwear department. I also found this super groovy multicolored corduroy paisley jacket.

BUT.... I am at a loss as to what type of pants and shirt I should wear and HOW SHOULD I DO MY HAIR AND MAKEUP??

Since I was a baby in the 60's and tween/teenager in the 70's, I really can't remember all the fashions!

A little (read a lot) of help/suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

I know you guys won't let me down!!

Thanks!
Mary

*THIS POST IS SUPOSED TO BE MY DEC 4TH POST... I JUST HAD A LITTLE EXTRA TIME TONIGHT SO I JUMPED THE GUN AND POSTED EARLY - LUCKY YOU!!

I think we're about the same age and if I remember correctly (wow – that was very long ago and far, far away!) you have a few options for hair
1) the bigger the better aka jumbo frizzed perm or
2) styled with a blow dryer and hot rollers ala Farah Fawcett feathers or
3) the totally straight natural look as in Ali McGraw & Love Story

Pants are a given - bell bottoms, the bigger the bell the better the bottom

Top - halter top or peasant blouse

You better post a photo of the final ensemble – I am dying to see what you come up with!

wow mary...im hopeless in the fashion dept. i remember my mom telling me she ironed her hair and used coke cans as curlers...do either of those options appeal to you?
i am a child of the seventies...i also remember a really terrible wig my mom wore!
and i agree with bell bottoms. and polyester.
just have fun!

I agree with the other comments. If you remember John Travolta in Stayin Alive, it was all about the bell bottom, but you could hit the late 70's and do big hair lots of hair spray in your bangs, almost the JB Big Boy swoop with lots of hair spray, and here is the best ACID WASH BLUE JEANS. What a crazy era the 70's were the fashion changed a couple times oh ya the tighter the better. I loved the 70's and the 80's. What ever you do remember your values and no parking after the party straight home.

Cathie has it down. But don't forget that the pants in '74 were hip huggers with wide leather belts! LoL Jeans were very big too, but as Cathie said Big Bells. If you can't find find bell bottoms split the the outside seam and sew on a triangle shaped piece of fabric. It could be a loud bright floral or paisley.
Have fun!
